My Journey to Wellness
I warmly invite you to read my story... A journey shaped by years of living with POTS and the heavy weight of feeling stuck in a body that wouldn't cooperate. I will take you on a little journey of how i navigated the shadows of chronic illness and the quiet, persistent work of finding a new way forward. I hope my path offers a sense of connection and a light for your own journey.
For years, my life was defined by the unpredictable rhythm of my own heart. Living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) felt like being a passenger in a vehicle that had lost its brakes. I spent days, weeks, months, stuck, navigating a world that seemed to move far too quickly for a body that required so much stillness.
At its worst, my days were ruled by symptoms. My heart would race or skip beats, I’d feel faint and shaky, with nausea, vertigo, breathlessness and a constant sense of adrenaline in my body. My digestion was a daily struggle – IBS, constipation, reactions to most foods, histamine intolerance, MCAS-type reactions, heartburn and a strange metal taste in my mouth. I had temperature swings, cold hands and feet, poor circulation, night sweats and crushing fatigue that felt like CFS. My body hurt with muscle aches and pains, my head pounded with headaches and tinnitus, and even simple movement or exercise felt impossible. My skin could burn or tingle, parts of me would go numb, and my senses felt overloaded – light, sound, fragrance and chemicals all felt “too much.” I lost hair, struggled with gum issues, and reacted badly to many medications and supplements. It truly felt like my whole life was built around trying to manage what my body might do next.
It wasn't just the physical symptoms... It was the profound sense of isolation that comes with an invisible illness. I found myself mourning the life I thought I was supposed to have, feeling disconnected from my own physical form and trapped in a cycle of fight-or-flight that never seemed to end.
However, it was in the depths of that stillness that I began to find a new way forward. I started to explore the intersection of different forms of calming the body, mind and trauma informed care. I learned that healing wasn't about returning to who I was before, but about building a new relationship with the person I am now, one rooted in safety, compassion, and resilience.
This personal evolution is what led me to establish Safespace Coaching. My story isn't just about overcoming a diagnosis, it’s about the transformation that happens when we learn to listen to our bodies' whispers instead of waiting for them to scream. Today, I use that lived experience to guide other people through their own journeys toward self-discovery and wellness.
